Morecambe FC Community Sports

One of the charities we support is Morecambe FC Community Sports. We are “Friends” of this fabulous local charity and they also share in our donations from 5% of every Will and Power of Attorney we write. Here’s a bit about who they are, what they do and how our support helps them to do it.

Who are we?

We are Morecambe Football Club’s independent charity, working with people of all ages, and abilities in the community. We are governed separately through our own board of trustees, but we use the power of the badge to open doors and start conversations. The Football Club does not provide any funding to our charity but supports us with some facility use at the stadium which help us to deliver some of our projects.

OUR VISION is to have a positive impact on our communities by creating a healthier and more connected Morecambe through the power of sport, health, education, and inclusion.

What do we do?

At Morecambe FC Community Sports, we currently deliver a wide range of services to our community including (but not exhaustive):

      • Working with Year 6 children with anxiety about the transition to high school. What coping strategies they can use to reduce their stress and understand their feelings more.

        • We work with our armed forces and blue light service veterans to provide a monthly meet up in a safe space. We also provide ongoing activities and a signposting service to available local support should they need it. We are also developing some of our veterans into volunteers to work on community projects. We also recently signed the Armed Forces Covenant, demonstrating our commitment to support members of this community.

          • Delivering a weekly get together with an over 60’s group. This provides a social space and activities that help to reduce isolation and give some of the participants a purpose.

            • Staff deliver a weekly befriending service in some local care homes. This encourages some low-level activity and games to help keep the residents mentally and physically active. To some, this is the only visit they get as they have no family.

              • We work with young people aged 10 -25 years in the justice system or on the cusp of it. We provide one to one support around information, advice, or guidance on local services. And on employment or training support, attending school, and ultimately encouraging behaviour change.

                • The team deliver activities in community settings aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour in identified communities.

                  • We also do a lot of work in schools delivering coaching sessions. We develop primary school teacher’s P.E delivery. We also run small intervention groups to support numeracy and literacy skills and social action projects to improve their environment.

The work of Morecambe FC Community Sports has a remarkable impact on the various communities we work closely with, we literally change people lives.

How is Morecambe Bay Wills helping?

We are currently a team of 11 staff and our ambition is to grow the team and to diversify our offer to reach more people in need. Morecambe Bay Wills & Estates help us to do that by being one of our “Friends”.

We have been also been selected as one of their local “chosen charities” this year. That means we get a share of the 5% they donate from all the work they do. In Q1 of 2024, that meant a donation of over £530. All to help us to help more people in our community.
